Media personality Mr Bones has offered a different explanation for why Daddy Lumba’s candlelight vigil in Kumasi was called off.

The vigil, originally scheduled for August 9, 2025, was meant to follow a successful tribute held in Accra by the Creative Arts Council. But two days before the event, a statement signed by Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye of the Creative Arts Agency announced its cancellation.

The release explained that the decision was tied to a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who had declared three days of national mourning from August 7 to 9 after a helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight people, including senior government officials.

Organizers promised to reschedule the Kumasi vigil, though no new date has since been confirmed. In the meantime, Daddy Lumba’s one-week observation was held on August 30, 2025.

Speaking on Fakye TV, Mr Bones alleged that the real reason for the cancellation had little to do with the mourning period. According to him, “they were not getting sponsors,” suggesting financial constraints derailed the event.

He further argued that the Creative Arts Council was unprepared from the outset, noting their late arrival in Kumasi as proof. In his words, the organizers merely “used the national mourning as a coverup” for calling off the program.

Mr Bones concluded that had the Council been properly prepared, the event could still have gone on.
