Renowned Ghanaian actor and brand influencer, Mikki Osei Berko, has pointed out that many actors in the country lack professionalism in the creative arts industry.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment on February 6, 2025, Mikki Osei Berko explained that there are no proper institutions in place to prepare creatives before they enter the industry.

“Most of us don’t act as professionals because we are not trained. And training is a key factor we are lacking in the creative industry. Most of us go through it as amateurs, and because of that, we don’t define our status in the eyes of the public.

“We take ourselves for granted; that is why people take us for granted. For the past few years, there has not been an active actors’ guild in this country, so who would fight for our rights? Who would take us seriously when we find it difficult to have a united front to speak for ourselves? So, these are problems that need to be fixed for people to take us seriously,” he said.

Mikki Osei Berko further emphasised the need for improvement in the creative arts industry.

He noted that there can be an improvement in the creative arts industry if there are appropriate institutions to equip actors before transitioning into the industry.

“I believe that we are not reaching global stages because we are not producing the expected standards in the industry. Here, people get up, and the next day they call themselves actors and photographers because they have cameras. So, we need to raise the standard, and that is what would take us there,” he added.
