Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr

A claim by veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has engaged the services of some European women to campaign for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was rejected by Ernest Adade, a member of the communications team of the NPP.

Kwesi Pratt, on the Thursday, November 7 edition of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, claimed to have seen a video of some European women at an NPP rally in the Ashanti Region.

Per his understanding of the video, the women were brought by the governing party to whip up interest in the party’s campaign in its stronghold, the Ashanti Region.

Pratt first quizzed Ernest Adade on whether it was a strategy by the party and how the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia arrived at the decision to use the women as campaign tools.

“Yesterday I saw a video of ten white European women who have apparently been brought by your campaign to assist in winning votes in Kumasi. They are white European women and they spoke in English. I’m just wondering if that is part of the strategy, and if that is part of your strategy, what does it mean? Why would anybody bring ten white women as volunteers to campaign in the Ashanti Region?” he said.

Ernest Adade, however, declined knowledge of the video, noting that there is no such plan by the party to use foreigners to woo voters in the Ashanti Region.

He stated, however, that even if that was the case, he saw nothing wrong with it as it could work in favor of the party.

“I haven’t seen the video, but whatever I have to do to win this election, I will do it. I don’t know about it, but we will do whatever is legally possible to win the election. We are running a multifaceted campaign. Let’s assume that I have a European friend who is adventurous enough to follow me wherever I go, then it’s okay, but I’m not aware of any European ladies,” he said.

Kwesi Pratt, who was adamant about the presence of the women in the NPP campaign, maintained that the party had flown down white women to campaign for them.

Ernest Adade also insisted that he was privy to no such arrangement and that he saw nothing wrong with it.
