Kwesi Appiah posing with the Play Offs trophy

Former Ghana international Kwesi Appiah has capped off a stellar season in England by winning three individual awards and helping Boreham Wood seal promotion to the National League.

The 34-year-old striker was named Players’ Player of the Season, Supporters’ Player of the Season, and finished as the club’s Top Goal Scorer, after netting 24 goals in the league.

His efforts were instrumental in Boreham Wood’s rise from a fifth-place finish in the National League South to a triumphant playoff run.

Appiah’s side edged Dorking Wanderers 4-3 in a thrilling quarter-final, before securing a tight 1-0 win over Torquay United in the semis.

The final saw Boreham Wood clinch promotion with another 1-0 victory, this time over Maidstone United.

Though he fell just three goals short of Truro City’s Harvey Tyler, who won the Golden Boot with 27 strikes, Appiah’s overall influence was undeniable, earning him acclaim from teammates and fans alike.

The former Crystal Palace forward shared his pride on social media.

“Promotion! Players’ Player of the Season, Supporters’ Player of the Season, Top Goal Scorer. Honoured. Humbled. Now it’s time to rest, reset, and prepare for the next challenge. The journey continues!” he posted.

Appiah’s resurgence at Boreham Wood is the latest chapter in a career filled with highs and setbacks.

A key member of Ghana’s squad at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, he scored one goal in four appearances during the tournament, where the Black Stars suffered a heartbreaking loss to Ivory Coast in the final.

Now 34, Appiah has shown he still has plenty to offer, both in front of goal and as a leader in the dressing room.

His experience and finishing touch were vital as Boreham Wood earned their spot in the National League for the 2025/26 season.
