The head coach of the Sudanese national team, Kwasi Appiah, has disclosed that his team was motivated to beat Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following a conversation he had with Ghana coach, Otto Addo.

Speaking on the BKB Show, Kwasi Appiah stated that after the first leg of the tie, played on October 10, he went to the dressing room of the Black Stars to greet them.

In the course of the exchange of pleasantries, Kwasi Appiah and Otto Addo had a conversation that became a source of inspiration and motivation for the Sudanese team.

According to Kwasi Appiah, Otto Addo told him that Sudan was lucky to have picked a point from the game at the Accra Sports Stadium and that they would not be lucky a second time.

“After the game, I went to the Ghana team’s dressing room to exchange pleasantries with them. When I got there, Otto Addo told me we were lucky and that Ghana should have scored a number of goals against us. He warned that we would not be lucky a second time in Libya. This is football, so I understood, but it motivated us,” he said.

Five days after that conversation, Sudan inflicted a painful 2-0 defeat on the Black Stars that rendered Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON a near impossibility.

As widely reported by GhanaWeb, the Black Stars could not qualify for the 2025 AFCON, which will be held in Morocco, after picking just three points from six matches.

Ghana lost three and drew three of six matches against Sudan, Angola, and Niger.

With Ghana missing out on the continental showpiece for the first time in twenty years, the GFA is under increasing pressure to sack Otto Addo.

However, reports indicate that the GFA has decided to stick with him and overhaul his backroom team.
