Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, shared his impressions of new signing Kwame Opoku, praising his smooth transition into the team.

Opoku rejoined Asante Kotoko on a free transfer on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, after signing a two-and-a-half-year deal that runs until mid-2027.

Although officially unveiled before Asante Kotoko’s victory over Hearts of Oak on Sunday, December 15, 2024, Opoku made his second debut for the club in their 2-0 win against Gold Stars on Friday, December 27, 2024.

Opoku repaid the club’s faith by expertly curling a goal into the far corner, putting Asante Kotoko 2-0 ahead after Justice Blay had opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors in the first half.

Speaking after the game during a post-match press conference, Ogum was full of praise for the former USM Alger forward, commending Opoku’s seamless integration and experience.

“For Kwame Opoku, I am not surprised because he has been here before, played in the league before, and has the experience. Since he came, he has been training with us day in and day out, waiting patiently for this opportunity to come and for the registration to be completed. In terms of integration, he has been with us for four weeks and has integrated really well,” Ogum said.

Having previously scored against Medeama in the 2020/21 season, Opoku will be full of confidence as Asante Kotoko face the 2023 champions in their next Ghana Premier League fixture on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Asante Kotoko has now moved to second place on the Ghana Premier League standings with 27 points, three points behind first-placed Heart of Lions.
