Kumawood comic actor Kwaku Manu has spoken about the long-running rivalries among fan bases in Ghana’s entertainment industry, describing them as an unavoidable part of showbiz.
According to the actor, competition between supporters of different celebrities has always existed and is unlikely to disappear completely because of the competitive nature of the entertainment industry.

Speaking on the issue, Kwaku Manu noted that some artistes themselves contribute to the rivalry when they publicly compare their status and popularity with that of their colleagues.
“Every fanbase wants their celebrity to be bigger than the other. Some artistes also boldly state that they are bigger than other artistes, and this creates controversies in the system,” he said.
‘This Is Natural’
Kwaku Manu said the phenomenon should not come as a surprise because fan-base competition has been part of the entertainment industry for a long time.
“This is natural, and there is nothing you can do about it because we came to meet it, so far as the entertainment industry is concerned,” he stated.
While acknowledging that fans will naturally defend and support the celebrities they admire, the actor urged supporters to know their limits.
Kwaku Manu’s Warning to Fans
The actor cautioned fans against putting themselves in danger or getting into trouble while attempting to defend their favourite celebrities.
He stressed that supporting an artiste should never become more important than protecting one’s own safety and well-being.
“You may like me as an artiste, but try to prioritise yourself first. You can be a loyal fan and get hurt or even get into trouble. Meanwhile, the artiste may not even be aware of such a situation,” he cautioned.
Kwaku Manu’s comments highlight the extent to which celebrity rivalries can sometimes influence supporters, particularly on social media, where disagreements between fan bases can quickly escalate.
He therefore encouraged fans to maintain their loyalty to their favourite artistes while remembering that their personal safety and future should come first.
His remarks also raise questions about the responsibility of celebrities themselves in managing fan rivalries, especially when public comparisons and claims of superiority can fuel tensions among their respective supporters.
