Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Kadi Divisional Chief of Binduri, was fatally shot by an unidentified assailant.

The attack occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, near his home close to the Asawase F-line community centre.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunman arrived on a motorcycle at approximately 8:40 pm, armed with an AK-47 rifle, and opened fire on the chief before escaping.

Despite being rushed to Manhyia District Hospital and later transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the chief was pronounced dead upon arrival. Abdul-Malik Azenbe had been enstooled as Kadi Naaba just three months prior.

DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, assured the public that authorities are working to apprehend the perpetrator.

In a separate statement, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah emphasized the government’s commitment to distinguishing criminal acts from traditional disputes. He warned that those exploiting chieftaincy conflicts to engage in illegal activities would face strict legal consequences, reaffirming the state’s dedication to maintaining law and order in volatile regions.
