President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has urged Ghanaians to rally behind newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz, 73, takes charge of the four-time African champions following the dismissal of Otto Addo and has been handed a short-term four-month contract to lead the team to the global showpiece. His appointment was formally communicated during an official introduction to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.

Speaking at the event, Okraku emphasized the need for national unity and backing for the experienced Portuguese coach. “Carlos Queiroz is part of us now, and he needs our support to ensure we achieve success for Mother Ghana,” he stated.

Members of the Black Stars management committee and the GFA Executive Council were present at the meeting. Queiroz is expected to begin his tenure with friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as part of preparations.

Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, and will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage after early exits in 2014 and 2022.
