The approach where artistes avoid media interviews for long periods and only appear when promoting a new project is outdated, according to rapper cum YouTuber Kula.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 5, 2025, Kula argued that the entertainment industry has evolved, and artistes must adapt to the changing times instead of holding on to old publicity strategies.

He explained that the traditional approach, where musicians disappear from the media for several months and suddenly begin intense media rounds when releasing a new project, is no longer effective.

‘I used my salary to fund my show’– Kula on struggles at YFM

“When times change, you need to also change according to the times, and it’s time for artists to embrace different ways and different strategies. That whole strategy of not going for interviews or not even being in the media at all for like six months, and then all of a sudden you announce you’re about to release a project,” he said.

Kula pointed out that such practice leads to repetition and audience fatigue, as artistes end up giving the same responses to same questions across different media platforms.

“The same answer you give on Hitz FM is the same answer you give on Joy FM, the same answer you give on Joy Prime, it’s like you’re just repeating yourself,” he noted.

He urged artistes to maintain a consistent presence in the media space even when they do not have a new project to promote.

“I’m not saying go for an interview every day or force yourself to do one every two or three days throughout the whole year, all I’m saying is there are a lot of media houses, and social media is now big. You can jump on somebody’s TikTok live one time and just interact with them; clips will be shared on social media, and that gets your face out there,” he stated.

Kula also suggested that artistes should occasionally take part in casual interviews or appearances, even when they have nothing to promote.

“Once in a while, go to, let’s say, Savage Room, just do an interview for fun. You don’t have anything to promote currently, but remember you have other songs that are also worthy of promotion,” he added.
