Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has raised concerns over the possible absence of Mohammed Kudus from Ghana’s squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Kudus, 25, is currently recovering from an injury that could rule him out of the tournament, dealing a major blow to Ghana’s preparations for the global showpiece.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Gyan described Kudus as one of the Black Stars’ most important players, highlighting his creativity, vision, and attacking intelligence as qualities the team would struggle to replace.
According to the former striker, Kudus provides a unique spark in Ghana’s attack and his absence would be strongly felt by the squad.
Despite the setback, Gyan urged the Black Stars technical team to quickly adapt and identify suitable alternatives capable of stepping up if Kudus is unavailable.
He stressed the importance of squad depth and tactical flexibility at major international tournaments, adding that Ghana must remain focused regardless of the midfielder’s situation.
Gyan also encouraged the team to prepare adequately for their World Cup group stage matches against Panama, England, and Croatia.
The Black Stars, who will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, are scheduled to open their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
