Dr Collins Kankam is a senior lecturer at KTU Business School

Dr. Collins Kankam, a senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University Business School, is advocating for a shift from the traditional “watchman system” to a well-structured, independent security unit in senior high schools.

According to him, this proposal would help address the growing issue of student indiscipline and significantly enhance school safety.

Dr. Kankam argued that relying on a single watchman is ineffective, particularly for schools located in isolated areas or lacking proper fencing.

He noted that tertiary institutions have uniformed security units, often led by retired police or military personnel, which could serve as a model for second-cycle institutions.

In a recent video posted by Sika Official on X, Dr. Kankam suggested that implementing a shift-based security system could ensure 24/7 protection for students’ safety and well-being.

“This security shift system will create employment opportunities, contributing to reducing the country’s unemployment rate,” he added.
