Kofi Nti has revealed that the late Daddy Lumba once privately recounted an old incident in which he suspected he had been poisoned, a claim the highlife musician says he heard directly from the legend himself.

Speaking on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, Kofi Nti explained that the discussion resurfaced during a conversation he had with Samini while the two were in the UK for a performance. Samini had made a remark urging men to be cautious about women, referencing rumours that linked the alleged poisoning to Daddy Lumba’s former wife, Akosua Serwaa.

Kofi Nti said he immediately responded by telling Samini that the rumour was incorrect. Samini then asked him to clarify the matter since he was close to Daddy Lumba, prompting Kofi Nti to recount what the musician had personally shared with him.

According to Kofi Nti, Daddy Lumba told him that the poisoning episode occurred many years earlier during a gathering with friends. Lumba had explained that although he once mentioned in a song that he had been poisoned, many listeners wrongly assumed the reference was about his ‘wife’, Akosua Serwaa. He clarified that the incident had nothing to do with her.

Kofi Nti said Lumba described attending a party with some friends, stepping away for a moment and returning to find that his drink had been tampered with. Lumba told him that these friends were the ones responsible for poisoning him. He went on to say that when he returned home that night, he began vomiting blood.

The musician added that Lumba used the conversation to caution him never to leave his drink unattended in public. Lumba even called his ‘wife’, Odo Broni, during their discussion to reaffirm that the poisoning rumour involving his first wife was completely unfounded.
