Kofi Nti has opened up about a period in his life when smoking and drinking almost derailed his music career.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the Ghanaian highlife singer admitted that while he was never a heavy smoker, the habit still had a negative impact on his daily life and professional growth.

He explained that even occasional smoking can become addictive and harmful, warning that it has the potential to ruin both a career and personal well-being.

Nti disclosed that addiction often distracted him from important career opportunities. After performances, instead of connecting with industry figures who could help him advance, he would find himself smoking in the background.

Realising the risks, Kofi Nti made the conscious choice to quit both smoking and drinking entirely.

He added that he deliberately distances himself from friends who still indulge in these habits, fearing their influence could tempt him to relapse.
