Kojo Yankah has criticised Kofi Adams over timing of Black Stars budget disclosure Kojo Yankah has criticised Kofi Adams over timing of Black Stars budget disclosure

Former Western Regional Football Association chairman, Kojo Yankah, has accused sports minister Kofi Adams of playing a role in the Black Stars‘ 1-1 draw against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He explained that the minister’s decision to make the team’s budget public a few days before Ghana’s game against Chad was the wrong approach and should be condemned.

Yankah asserted that the backlash that followed the budget disclosure had an impact on the entire squad and the technical team, leading to the disappointing result.

Five takeaways from Black Stars‘ performance against Chad

“Kofi Adams, the sports minister, must be blamed for this result. You don’t disclose a budget a day or two before the team plays a crucial game.

“I wonder if he even consulted the Management Committee or the players before releasing the budget. I knew there would be trouble when he decided to do that, and here we are now,” he told Asempa FM.

The former Western Region football chairman noted that, despite being a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams’ actions were needless and advised him to be more cautious.

“I’m not ashamed to say I’m affiliated with the NDC, but what Kofi Adams did was wrong and shouldn’t be repeated. Nii Lante Vanderpuye did the same thing, and it didn’t end well. And now Kofi Adams is doing the same thing,” he added.

Meanwhile, after seven games played, Ghana lead Group I with 16 points, Madagascar are second with 13 points, and Mali and Comoros are tied with 12 points each.

The Black Stars must win their next game against Mali on Monday, September 8, 2025, to maintain their lead.
