The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing a national sports fund to invest in sporting activities.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama has made the sports fund a priority to improve the fortunes of the sector amid its struggles.

The sports minister stated that his administration aims to generate revenue from sports betting, lotteries, corporate sponsorships, and tourism levies.

“The NDC administration, led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, is committed to establishing a national sports fund, where revenue from sports betting not betting tax will be channeled directly into sports development, along with revenue from the national lottery, corporate sponsorships, and tourism levies,” he said during the JoySports National Dialogue.

Kofi Adams further stressed that his ministry is working to enhance the broadcast rights of the Ghana Premier League for better viewership and to form partnerships with digital platforms.

“We are working to expand broadcasting rights for local leagues and encouraging partnerships with digital platforms to monetize Ghanaian sports content. In the global sports economy, sports media rights generate over $56 billion annually, a market Ghana can no longer afford to overlook.

“Our local leagues must become commercially viable, attracting sponsorships, high-quality broadcasts, and packed stadiums,” he added.
