The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring justice in the murder case of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko fan.
Pooley was fatally stabbed during Kotoko’s clash against Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after an on-field altercation among players escalated into the stands, leading to the tragic incident.
Following the tragedy, the IGP met with Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials at the Police Headquarters on February 5, 2025, stressing the need for a united front against hooliganism in football and pledging to bring justice to the bereaved family.
Speaking in an interview with Starr FM, Adams lauded Dr. Dampare’s proactive approach in addressing rising concerns over violence and unrest in football stadiums, while assuring the public that justice would be served.
“So far, I’m impressed with the personal interest the IGP has shown in this case. We are not going to stop at public statements and initial actions. The police have made arrests, and investigations and prosecutions are ongoing,” he said.
Adams’ remarks come at a critical time as the public eagerly awaits swift action on the matter.
With authorities promising a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice, the minister’s assurance offers much-needed reassurance.
