The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he would not be surprised if Andre Ayew earns a recall to Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Ayew, 36, has not featured for the Black Stars since friendly matches against Nigeria national football team and Uganda national football team in March 2024. He has since been omitted from squads for both Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.

The former Le Havre AC forward joined NAC Breda in January after being without a club at the end of last season.

Speaking on Adom FM, Adams said Ayew’s recent progress at club level keeps him in contention for national selection.

“Dede Ayew, too, is picking up, and as long as he has not retired, I won’t be surprised if he makes it into the squad,” the minister stated.

Ayew has started NAC Breda’s last three Eredivisie matches as he seeks his first goal for the Dutch side.
