Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs, Kofi Okyere Darko, well-known as KOD, has called on Ghana’s music industry to resist the urge to produce tribute songs for the late Highlife icon, Daddy Lumba.

Taking to Facebook, KOD expressed strong reservations about posthumous musical tributes, arguing that such efforts are not only unnecessary but would fail to capture the essence of the legend’s legacy.

“Creating a tribute song for Daddy Lumba won’t be easy and should not be encouraged… he already wrote his own while he was still with us. His music said it all long before we ever had to say goodbye,” KOD wrote.

The statement comes amid growing public calls for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to spearhead tribute recordings, an increasingly common tradition following the deaths of iconic musicians.

But for KOD, who knew Lumba both personally and professionally, no tribute could ever match the authenticity and emotional weight of the late star’s own body of work. To him, Daddy Lumba’s vast catalogue speaks louder than any new homage ever could.
