The Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), has reaffirmed President Mahama’s dedication to revitalizing Ghana’s creative industry.

In an interview with TV3’s King Kwaku Mensa, KOD emphasized that President Mahama’s strategic appointment of creatives and industry experts underscores his vision for reshaping the sector.

Expressing confidence in the administration’s transformative agenda, he noted:

“If you look around, this government has appointed a significant number of creatives, which is both an honor and a major responsibility. We must ensure that substantial progress is made in the creative space.”

KOD highlighted the administration’s focus on strengthening copyright laws, with plans to introduce impactful reforms within the next four years.

“We are particularly invested in changing the narrative around copyright in this country. Major changes are expected in that space,” he stated.

He also underscored the significance of the Black Star Experience initiative, which aims to elevate Ghana’s global visibility.

Additionally, KOD reassured stakeholders that the government remains committed to establishing Ghana as the West African Hub for the Grammys, continuing discussions initiated by the previous administration.

“This is a conversation we intend to push forward to ensure it materializes. It will greatly benefit our musicians,” he remarked.

Beyond music, KOD highlighted the government’s ambition to position Ghana’s film industry among Africa’s top three, emphasizing the need for intentional policies and strategic focus to achieve this goal.
