Rescue Ghhana is omposed and sung by the ever-creative artist Kobby Maxwell

In an election where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) made the case for a reset of the Ghanaian way of life, no music epitomizes that message more than the hit track ‘Rescue Ghana.’

Composed and sung by the ever-creative artist Kobby Maxwell, with Executive Producer Charles Manful, the song pleads with the NDC’s former flag bearer and now president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to intervene and save the country.

The singer refers to nation wreckers as bedbugs that have ravaged all facets of our national life. Kobby Maxwell cites the pollution of our natural resources, illegal mining, and a badly damaged healthcare system as some of the damage caused by the current administration.

The song is not devoid of humor. Kobby Maxwell criticizes Bawumia for describing himself as a driver’s mate.

He questions what the ‘driver,’ President Akufo-Addo, has achieved, wondering how a ‘mate’ working under such a driver could offer anything better.

In contrast to what Mr. Akufo-Addo’s government has delivered, the persona touts former President John Mahama’s capacity to introduce a 24-hour economy policy, which aims to address the country’s economic problems and fortify the health sector abandoned by the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The chorus ‘Come rescue Ghana, JDM’ echoes throughout the song as the singer blends it with the NDC’s informal slogan, ‘3y3 zu, 3y3 za,’ to make the umbrella an appealing brand Ghanaians can count on to deliver the country from the mess created by the NPP.

The artist also uses both English and Akan to communicate his message to his listeners. The words he uses in the bilingual song make for easy understanding and relatability.

For those who know the enduring effects of what a single bedbug can do, associating the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration with these destructive creatures could not be more spot on.

Post-election season, this super creative work reminds us of the change we voted for on December 7. The man they call the nation builder is on a mission, and every word in the track confirms what is in store for us.
