Delegates of the New Patriotic Party in the Bantama Constituency have elected Kingsley Atta as the new Constituency Chairman in a keenly contested re-run election held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Kumasi Cultural Centre.

Mr. Atta secured victory with a slim margin of 4 votes, defeating his closest contender, Fiifi Mensah, in an election supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission and observed by national and regional executives of the NPP.

In certified results declared by the EC’s Returning Officer, Kingsley Atta polled 570 votes representing 50.2%, whilst the incumbent Chairman, Fiifi Mensah, obtained 566 votes, representing 49.8%.

The tight margin marks a sharp contrast to the annulled election held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, where Mr. Atta had won by a landslide.

The re-run followed the NPP’s National Steering Committee’s decision to annul the initial constituency executive election, citing breaches of party directives and electoral regulations.

In that election, Kingsley Atta defeated the incumbent Chairman, Fiifi Mensah, with 714 votes, representing 72.8% of the 995 valid votes cast. Fiifi Mensah obtained 267 votes, representing 27.2%.

Addressing delegates after his victory, the newly elected Chairman, Kingsley Atta, expressed gratitude to delegates for the confidence reposed in him despite the significant reduction in the number of votes he received compared to the initial election.

“Today, the delegates have spoken. I am humbled by this mandate. The numbers may be different, but the task ahead is the same,” he said.

He pledged to prioritise unity within the party and work to deliver victory for the NPP in the Bantama Constituency in the 2028 general elections.

“We cannot afford to go into 2028 divided. I will be Chairman for all, and my door is open to everyone, including my brother Fiifi. To my supporters, let us celebrate with decorum. This victory belongs to the party,” Mr. Atta added.

In a show of sportsmanship, the outgoing Chairman, Fiifi Mensah, walked straight to the seat of the newly-elected Chairman, Kingsley Atta, and hugged him in a warm handshake.

He congratulated Mr. Atta and all the newly elected executive members on their victory.

Mr. Atta described the gesture as a sign of maturity and unity.

In an interview with the media, Fiifi Mensah pledged to sustain his efforts to help the party secure victory in the next general elections, despite his defeat.

“I accept the verdict of the delegates in good faith. The decision has been made, and I respect it. I will remain committed to the party and will do all I can to ensure victory for the party in 2028,” he added.

Reacting to the annulled election, he said the re-run result had vindicated his claim that the first election was not conducted fairly.

“The outcome of today’s re-run has only confirmed what we raised from the beginning. That election was conducted on unfair grounds and did not reflect the true will of the delegates. In that election I lost by 447 votes, but in today’s election I lost by only 4 votes,” he stated.

Delegates also elected Vincent Kofi Amoabeng as First Vice Chairman, Frank Boateng as Second Vice Chairman, Douglas Acheampong (Unopposed) as Constituency Secretary, Kwadwo Adu as Assistant Secretary, and Eric Mensah as Constituency Organiser.

The remaining elected officers include Nana Boakye as Youth Organiser, Vivian Arthur as Treasurer, Josephine Ama Poma as Women’s Organiser, Kingsford Addai as Communications Director, and Afram Tuffour as Nasara Coordinator.

Representatives of the Ashanti Regional and National Executives, as well as the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, were present to observe the process.

They expressed satisfaction with how the re-run was conducted.

Speaking after the results were declared, the Bantama MP, Francis Asenso-Boakye, congratulated the winner and urged all members to unite behind the new executives.

“The time for division is over. The focus now is on unity. Whoever won or lost, we must all rally behind one goal to work together to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next president in the 2028 general elections in order to continue the good works and legacy of President Akufo-Addo,” the MP stated.

He commended delegates for conducting themselves peacefully and thanked the Electoral Commission and security agencies for ensuring a transparent process.

The new executives are expected to take office in the coming days to immediately begin reorganizing the constituency and mobilising support for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 elections.
