Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso has shared an emotional message following Austria’s 5-1 victory over Ghana in their pre-World Cup friendly in Vienna.

The Tottenham defender, who has Ghanaian parentage, took to Instagram after the game to express his mixed feelings following the encounter between his country of birth and heritage.

“Proud day for the family. Austria, Ghana,” he posted, highlighting the unique personal significance of the match.

Danso featured in the first half of the game, playing 45 minutes and making a key impact as he won the penalty that led to Austria’s opening goal after the ball struck the hand of Jonas Adjetey. He was later replaced at half-time by Freiburg defender Philipp Lienhart.

Austria had taken the lead through Marcel Sabitzer’s 12th-minute penalty before Michael Gregoritsch extended the advantage early in the second half.

Mainz 05 full-back Stefan Posch added a third, while Carney Chukwuemeka and Nicolas Seiwald completed the scoring to seal a comprehensive win for the Boys.

The result serves as preparation for both nations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Ghana now turning attention to their next test against Germany on Tuesday, March 30 at the MHP Arena.

Austria will also host South Korea on Tuesday, March 31, in their final friendly of the March international window.
