Ghanaian politician and business mogul Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has pledged to fund the construction of a 600-bed dormitory at his alma mater, Adisadel College, in Cape Coast.

The proposed facility is expected to be named after the former Assin Central Member of Parliament once completed.

The pledge was announced at Canterbury Hall during celebrations marking the Golden Jubilee anniversary of Santa 81, the year group to which Agyapong belongs.

The celebrations brought together members of the 1981 year group to commemorate 50 years since they first entered the prestigious Cape Coast-based secondary school.

The announcement reportedly received an enthusiastic response from students and staff present at the event, with the proposed project attracting attention because of its potential impact on the school’s residential facilities.

A 600-bed dormitory would represent a significant addition to Adisadel College’s infrastructure, with the facility potentially providing accommodation for a large number of students.

For an institution with a long history and a strong alumni community, the proposed project also carries symbolic significance, reflecting the continued connection between former students and their alma mater decades after leaving the school.

The development was also highlighted by Up Santaclausians USA, a US-based alumni group, which shared the news on its Facebook page.

The group described the pledge as one of the notable moments of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, emphasising the enduring bond between the Santa 81 year group and Adisadel College.

The alumni group further portrayed the pledge as an example of how relationships and memories formed during one’s school years can translate into investments aimed at supporting the institution’s future.
