Veteran music producer and sound engineer Kaywa is urging artists to be more intentional with their lyrics if they hope to create music that stands the test of time.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime TV, the renowned producer, born David Kojo Kyei, warned that songs laced with profanity or explicit content may enjoy fleeting success, but rarely endure in the long run.

“Pornography and profanity don’t go far. Check all the timeless songs, check all the songs that are still making it well in music, and you will realise that pornography is 1%. Look at Celine Dion’s music; it is timeless. So, my point is that artistes should clean up their music so the young can listen to it and the old can listen to it,” he explained.

Kaywa believes that the most lasting songs are often those with universal, wholesome messages that resonate across generations. He encouraged musicians to move away from vulgarity and instead create content that both children and elders can enjoy without discomfort.

He singled out Ghanaian artist Kofi Kinaata as a strong example of this kind of thoughtful musical craftsmanship.

“Let’s take someone like Kofi Kinaata, super talented, he does not just do music, he makes sure what he is giving to you, a chief, a pastor, the imam and anybody can listen to it because of the kind of message he brings out,” Kaywa said.

In his view, the mark of truly great music lies not in shock value or trendiness but in substance, relatability, and the ability to touch hearts across time.
