Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has officially completed his move from Southampton to Atalanta for a reported fee of €18 million, bringing an end to weeks of speculation about his future.

The 23-year-old Black Stars forward has signed a contract with the Serie A club until 2029, with an option to extend by an additional year.

Renowned transfer insider Nicolo Schira first confirmed the deal, which is seen as a major boost for Atalanta as they prepare for a demanding domestic and European campaign next season.

Kamaldeen joined Southampton from Rennes in 2023 but struggled to fully settle in the Premier League.

He managed 4 goals and 7 assists in 74 appearances for the Saints, including just 1 goal and 1 assist in 26 Premier League games last season as the club finished bottom of the table and suffered relegation to the Championship.

Despite Southampton rejecting Atalanta’s initial €14 million bid, the Italian side pushed negotiations forward, eventually agreeing to a base fee of €17 million plus €4 million in performance-related add-ons.

The deal also includes a 15% sell-on clause in Southampton’s favour, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The move reunites Kamaldeen with Ivan Jurić, who briefly coached him for 15 games during the latter stages of last season at Southampton.

Jurić is said to have played a key role in pushing for the winger’s arrival in Bergamo.

Known for his blistering pace, dribbling skills and direct attacking style, Kamaldeen is expected to add dynamism to Atalanta’s wide options and give them an extra edge in Serie A and Europe next term.

Atalanta announced the signing on social media with a warm message: “Welcome to Bergamo, Kamaldeen”, delighting fans eager to see how the Ghanaian forward adapts to life in Italy.

After a challenging stint in England, Kamaldeen now has a fresh chance to rediscover his best form on one of Europe’s biggest stages, and Ghanaians will be hoping he can shine as brightly as many believe he can.
