Kafui Danku-Pitcher, the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary of the Ghana National Film Authority, has shared an emotional birthday tribute to the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who would have turned 50 on December 26, 2025.

In a Facebook post on December 26, the day meant to mark the late Minister of Defence’s birthday, Kafui Danku disclosed that a birthday reminder alarm for Dr Omane Boamah was what woke her up that morning.

According to the NFA CEO, the moment brought back memories of their shared experiences and left her feeling emotional about his absence.

While she admits that his passing still upsets her, she said she trusts that God knows best and believes Dr Omane Boamah is in heaven watching over his loved ones.

“Dorrrrc, your birthday reminder alarm woke me up this morning and it reminded me of all the good times.

I went to my drawer to look at the little, thoughtful gift I’ve had ready for you since January. I still remember when I told you l’d write an entire article about you on your next birthday and your response was just ‘Kafui!’ with that smile.

“Sometimes, I feel upset that you’re no longer here with us, but I trust that God knows best.

Somethings will never be the same! I believe you’re in Heaven, watching over us. You will always be deeply missed!” she wrote.

Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah was among eight people who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025. All eight occupants of the aircraft died at the scene.

The Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter had taken off from Accra at about 9:12am en route to Obuasi when it lost radar contact shortly after departure, according to the Ghana Armed Forces.

Those on board included three crew members and five passengers. The deceased were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence; Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chair of the National Democratic Congress; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Amaning Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
