Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning, a member of the renowned Ghanaian music duo Akatakyie, has issued a sobering warning to his colleagues, urging them to seek divine protection.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie at the funeral of late highlife musician Dada KD, Asumaning expressed the difficulties artistes face.

He stated that while musicians “love people” and depend on fans, getting closer to them can often lead to betrayal.

“Always be careful. People may talk about you in a good way when you are trying to protect yourself. They are the same people who can hurt you when you get closer to them… immediately you get close to them, they’ll try to create news around you, bad news,” he lamented.

He further urged musicians to become more prayerful and “get closer to God”, acknowledging that while there is power in “juju” and “Mallams,” God is the most powerful.

“Juju is powerful, Mallams are powerful but there is no person more powerful in this world than God when you follow him, trouble may come, problems may come, but you will always be victorious,” he said.

Asumaning called for reciprocity in the relationship between artistes and the public, stating, “The same love we share with them, they should also do the same thing to us.”
