Football fans were left stunned by Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen for his ‘psycho’ warmup routine before his team’s home opener.

The Bills played their first regular season game at new Highmark Stadium on Thursday evening when they hosted the Detroit Lions.

Allen ran out of the tunnel to cheers for the first time in the new building before the game began.

Then, at one point in the first quarter, Allen was seen warming up with something bizarre between his teeth.

The former MVP was seen biting down on a packet of smelling salts – the stimulant that the NFL has banned its teams from handing out to players.

However, athletes can use their own supply of the product if they so choose. This is how Allen was able to be seen with it on the field without issue.

Still, fans couldn’t believe that the strong substance was spotted between the teeth of the quarterback and star.

‘Josh Allen rocking smelling salts in his mouth like a dart??’ one user posted on X.

A different post read, ‘does Josh Allen think smelling salts are Zyns? That’s diabolical.’ Another described this move as ‘Psycho behavior, but I’m here for it.’

‘Josh Allen is literally sucking on the smelling salts packet rn as he warms up to go onto the field. Like it’s a freaking wintergreen pouch. Never in my life, bro. That’s just nuts,’ said one user.

Another said, ‘Josh Allen chewing on smelling salts? Oh yeah Bills winning by at least 30.’

The Bills took a 27-10 lead into halftime as Allen scored a rushing touchdown and three passing touchdowns.

Allen spoke about the Bills fanbase and how he’s fueled by their energy: ‘Every time I step out into a home game, you want to feel that excitement and energy, whether it’s at old Highmark or new Highmark.’

‘I get the same feeling regardless of what stadium we’re playing in. So again, the goal is the goal, and that’s to go 1-0.’
