Cristiano Ronaldo, forward for Al Nassr

Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has boldly declared Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest footballer of all time, choosing the Portuguese superstar over Lionel Messi.

The ongoing debate about who holds the title of the world’s greatest footballer saw Paintsil align himself with Ronaldo, ranking him above Messi in football’s pantheon of legends.

Ronaldo and Messi, since emerging on the global stage, have established themselves as two of the greatest players the football world has ever seen. However, their dominance has sparked endless debates among fans about who truly deserves the title of the best.

During an interview with GHOne TV, the LA Galaxy winger expressed his admiration for both players but ultimately chose the former Real Madrid star as his personal GOAT (Greatest of All Time).

“I love both of them, but everyone has a different kind of gift. For me, it’s Ronaldo who will be my GOAT. I know some people might not agree, but that’s okay,” he stated.

Paintsil has been an integral part of the Black Stars squad, although the team faced back-to-back group-stage exits in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2023. Since making his debut, he has earned 15 caps for the national team and contributed two assists.

In December 2024, Paintsil made history by scoring a crucial first-half goal in the MLS Playoffs final, propelling LA Galaxy to their first MLS trophy in a decade.
