Renowned Ghanaian actor-turned-politician, John Dumelo, has lodged a formal complaint with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) against the sitting Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

This development comes days before the December 7, 2024, general elections.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page today, December 3, 2024, Dumelo, who is contesting the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), revealed details of the complaint.

He accused Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan and her team of engaging in actions that breach Ghana’s electoral and criminal laws.

The complaint, accompanied by video evidence, highlights incidents that allegedly occurred during special voting at the Legon District Police Station on December 2, 2023.

According to a letter signed by Benjamin Avornyotse, the lawyer of John Dumelo, the sitting MP was seen distributing white plastic bags, reportedly containing food and other items, to voters in the queue. The letter also added that these actions were intended to influence voters in her favor.

“We expect the OSP to take immediate and decisive steps to not only prevent Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan from repeating the unlawful behavior but also to bring her and all her accomplices to book,” the letter stated.

The complaint has sparked public interest, with many anticipating swift action by the Special Prosecutor to address the allegations and uphold electoral fairness.
