Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has once again demonstrated his commitment to student welfare by donating 500 bags of rice to financially vulnerable students of the University of Ghana, Legon, on Tuesday, July 23, 2025.

The donation was presented through the Dean of Students, Professor Rosina Kyeremanten, as part of the University’s Food Bank Initiative, which seeks to support students who struggle to afford three square meals a day while on campus.

Sharing photos from the presentation on his official Facebook page, Dumelo wrote:

“This morning I donated 500 5kg bags of rice to the University of Ghana through the Dean of Students, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten. The food bank initiative was launched by UG to help financially vulnerable students who find it hard to sometimes have 3 square meals on campus. #idey4u.”

In the photos shared, the MP is seen alongside Prof. Kyeremanten and members of the university’s administration, standing beside piles of rice bags ready to be distributed to students in need.

Check out some moments from the donation below…

It should be noted that this is not the first time John Dumelo has reached out to students of the University of Ghana. Even before winning the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections, he regularly supported students through various means, including: free transportation for students traveling home during holidays, oaptop donations and giveaways to support digital learning and many others.
