Ghanaian actress Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has shared her account of what transpired during the 2024 Ghana Movie Awards.

Speaking in an interview with Zionfelix on January 24, 2025, Akuapem Poloo disclosed that renowned Nigerian actor Jim Iyke, who was a guest at the event, angrily walked out mid-way through.

“Yes, Jim Iyke walked out of the event. But the reason behind it, I don’t know. Organising an event like that is never easy. Maybe he was disappointed, but we all work in this industry, so sometimes you have to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Maybe it didn’t go the way he expected it to. We’ve all attended the Ghana Movie Awards before, and it hasn’t always gone the way it did this time,” she explained.

Akuapem Poloo further urged her peers to continue supporting Fred Nuamah, the founder of the Ghana Movie Awards, and to embrace Ghanaian initiatives.

“The way you people held Nuamah those days, you should leave him like that. Ghanaians have to love their own, the Nigerians don’t do that. When you hear that Nigerians are doing something, our media supports them.

“We should support him. It doesn’t matter if he (Fred) has done something. We should focus on what we are going to get. You can spend at least an hour at the event for him to notice your presence. Moreover, he is close to most of you and this scheme is something that will determine if you are doing well as an actor,” she added.

The 2024 Ghana Movie Awards took place at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), where notable personalities like Adjetey Anang, Jackie Appiah, Akrobeto, Akuapem Poloo, and Nigerian actor Ramsey Nouah were in attendance.

Akuapem Poloo won the “Discovery of the Year” award after a competitive run against other nominees, including Frank Ntiamoah, Matina Dwamena, Sherita Adu, Quesh, and Augustina Aboabo.
