Ghanaian young-sensation Jerry Afriyie has received a late call-up to the Black Stars squad as preparations continue for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico on Friday, May 22.

The 19-year-old forward joins camp after an impressive 2025/26 season on loan at RAAL La Louviere in the Belgian Pro League. Afriyie scored five goals and provided one assist in 31 appearances during the campaign.

Although he was not included in the initial squad list, the talented youngster has now been handed the opportunity to impress new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the final squad selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Afriyie’s arrival in camp is expected to boost competition in Ghana’s attacking department as the technical team continues assessing players before the tournament in North America.

The Black Stars will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before facing England at Boston Stadium on June 23.

Ghana will conclude their group-stage fixtures against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on June 27 as they seek qualification to the knockout stage.
