A total of 139 graduands from Jayee University College (JUC) received various certificates, including degrees, diplomas, and certificates over the weekend.

In total, there were 43 bachelor degrees awarded along with 96 diplomas and certificates in fields such as Journalism, Accounting, Secretaryship, Public Relations, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, and Marketing.

During his welcome address, Professor Samuel K. Amoako, the President of the college, stated that through diligent efforts, the institution had successfully regained its accreditation and its programmes in the faculties of business management and communication sciences, in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

He mentioned that the college currently offers both diploma and degree programmes across two faculties, with plans to launch a third faculty in social and communication sciences in September of this year.

“This new faculty will focus on bilingual education, digital technology, and digital reporting,” he mentioned.

Professor Amoako highlighted that a significant challenge facing the college was the necessity to comply with the Education Regulatory Bodies Act of 2020, Act 1023, which aims to facilitate the achievement of a Presidential Charter by 2024.

He pointed out that the college had submitted its self-evaluation report to GTEC for feedback, and the deadline for obtaining the presidential charter had been extended by two years.

“Eighteen colleges, including JUC, have until August 2027, to meet the requirements for the Presidential Charter,” he noted.

Additionally, he emphasised that the college was grappling with financial challenges, as its financial situation had not significantly improved due to low student enrollment.

“Currently, the total student enrollment is 209, reflecting a 16.4 per cent increase compared to the previous year,” he indicated.

He also mentioned that the college was actively pursuing expansion plans, with advanced preparations in place to establish a learning centre in Tarkwa of the Western Region.

“This new centre will offer undergraduate programmes in Business Administration, with specialisations in Accounting and Human Resources,” he undeelined.

The founder of the college, Mr John Emmanuel Donkor, thanked the university council and management team for steering the college through turbulent times and the continuous support and collaboration of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

He congratulated the graduands for their patience, hard work and perseverance that had brought them very far.
