Students who assaulted their colleague at Swedru have been arrested

There is an uproar on social media following consistent cases of hooliganism in the 2026 Inter-Schools competitions across the country.

In a recent video, a student from Obrachire SHS in the Central Region was seen being assaulted by individuals in uniform, who threw stones at him multiple times and physically attacked him.

One individual who attempted to intervene was also assaulted, as both suffered beatings in the process.

Prior to this, there were other chaotic incidents, including students clashing and destroying seats at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. There was also another report of gang rape and assault in the Eastern Region.

Reacting to these incidents, some Ghanaian sports fans condemned the violent acts by Senior High School students, who are expected to comport themselves but instead resort to violence.

Many have called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Police Service to take stringent disciplinary measures including prosecution against the students involved, to serve as a deterrent and help curtail the menace.

Others suggested that the GES should overhaul its code of conduct to empower teachers to discipline recalcitrant students, as cases of misconduct continue to surge.
