Veteran Ghanaian Gospel singer, Jack Alolome, has shed light on the growing rift and behind-the-scenes rivalries plaguing Ghana’s gospel music industry.

He recounted moments of personal betrayal from fellow artistes he once trusted in an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo. Alolome revealed how a well-known gospel colleague declined to feature on one of his songs for fear that the track would become too successful.

“That person told me he wouldn’t because it would be a hit and I would get all the fame, so he wouldn’t work with me,” the ‘Woso Me Mu’ singer recalled.

But the disappointment didn’t end there. Alolome also shared a deeply personal story about helping a fellow musician with a travel opportunity, only to be sabotaged by that same individual when he later sought help himself.

“I never considered travelling out because I didn’t see any reason to, and I didn’t have anyone to host me if I went.

But when the opportunity came, I just decided to do so anyway. So I went for my documents and came back only to be shocked when the person said that my colleague, whom I had earlier helped, had called him to tell him not to process my visa for me because I would not return,” he said.

Alolome explained that he had previously gone out of his way to assist this colleague, connecting him with a bank manager friend to help secure travel documentation. The betrayal, he said, came as a devastating surprise.

His experiences echo a wider chorus of discontent within the gospel music fraternity in Ghana, where issues of envy, spiritual undercurrents, and professional sabotage are increasingly coming to light.
