Asante Kotoko’s new head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has voiced his frustration after his side failed to convert numerous chances in their goalless draw against rivals Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

The fiercely contested encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium saw both teams create opportunities but ultimately fall short in the final third. While the game ended in a stalemate, Kotoko looked the more likely to score, especially in the opening half-hour.

After the match, Zito acknowledged the improvements in attacking play but lamented his forwards’ inability to finish.

“Putting the ball into the net is the responsibility of the player. We teach them how to score, but converting those chances is a matter of individual ability. I’ve done countless training sessions on finishing. When I came in, I saw that finishing was the problem. Now we’re creating chances, we just need to put the ball in the net. Maybe by the next game, we’ll see that change,” he explained.

Zito’s comments came on the back of a promising performance from his side, which entered the game with renewed confidence after a 1-0 win over Aduana Stars ended a four-match winless run and led to the departure of Prosper Ogum.

Under Zito, Kotoko looked more organised and purposeful in attack but lacked the clinical edge to take all three points against Hearts of Oak.
