The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has sent a congratulatory message to the winner of the 2024 presidential election, former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Speaker, the victory achieved by the National Democratic Congress flagbearer bears testimony to Ghana’s commitment to sustaining democracy.

“Today, we celebrate not just a victory, but a reaffirmation of our democratic principles,” the Speaker said.

“John Mahama’s win is an affirmation of the will of the people, and I am confident that he will lead Ghana towards greater prosperity and inclusivity,” a statement from the Speaker’s office added.

The Speaker also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the newly elected president in building Ghana.

“It is now our collective responsibility to support him in the task of nation-building. Together, we can work towards addressing the challenges that lie ahead and ensure that every citizen feels the impact of good governance,” Speaker Bagbin said.

Former President John Dramani Mahama was announced the winner of the December 7, 2024, presidential election by the Electoral Commission on Monday, December 9.

He beat 12 other candidates by polling 56.55% of the total valid votes, as against his closest contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, who obtained 41.61% of the total valid votes.
