Alhaji Ustaz Ahmed Seidu, the Executive Secretary to the Ashanti Regional Chief Imams, has cautioned the former Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mohammed Abdul-Salam, to reject his appointment as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

According to him, per Islamic teachings, it is against their rules and regulations for a Muslim to associate with anything related to gambling; hence, he needs to desist from such a role.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on January 17, 2025, he added that it would be an insult to his family to feed on lottery money.

“According to Islamic teachings, it is haram for a Muslim to gamble; it is against Islamic teachings, it is haram totally.

“The Quran has said that gambling is against our teachings, and you, as a Muslim, if you engage yourself in such activities, then it is something that I cannot understand. So, I will caution him to stop the work as quickly as possible because he is Alhaji.

“It will be an insult to the whole family for them to feed from lottery,” he said.

President John Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The appointment was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722).

This was announced in a release issued by the Secretary to the President on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. According to the statement, the appointment is pending the constitutionally required advice of the Board of the Authority provided in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
