Tiwa Savage is an Afrobeats musician
Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has addressed speculations surrounding her past comments about a “disrespectful” and secret relationship, making it clear that her colleague Wizkid was not the person she was referring to.
In a previous interview on the Joe Budden Podcast, Tiwa Savage recounted a hidden romance with a fellow celebrity, leading many on social media to assume she was speaking about Wizkid.
However, in a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, she put the rumours to rest, clarifying that while the individual in question is indeed a public figure, it was not Wizkid.
“I love and respect Wizkid; it was not about him. It was someone else. He probably saw that and was wondering, ‘How did I get dragged into this?’ It’s not about him,” she stated.
Savage detailed how the relationship became increasingly toxic. She said it began with her partner insisting on absolute secrecy.
“It didn’t just go from zero to 100. The way men work with your psyche, they chip a little bit, and before you know it, you’re like, ‘How did I get here?’
“First he’s like he doesn’t want people to know, then he’s like he will change my name on his phone so if I’m calling people won’t know it’s me, and then when we go out we go separately and leave separately. Then it gets to the point where I’m somewhere,” she said.
Tiwa Savage admitted that at the time, she didn’t see how bad the situation was, even as friends warned her.
“At the time I didn’t see how bad it was. My friends were warning me but I was like, ‘They didn’t understand,’” she said.
“Now I’m talking about it, and I’m embarrassed for myself. It’s so embarrassing to realise that I allowed that to happen,” she added.
Despite the pain, Savage emphasised that she has landed in a place of peace, concluding that she will no longer jeopardise her peace of mind for a relationship.
