Wendy Shay is a Ghanaian singer
The mother of acclaimed Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has added her voice to a video that has sparked criticisms on social media, in which the singer’s protégé was seen urging fans to be on their feet during a recent performance.
Recently, Wendy Shay’s protégé, Tracy Shay, was captured in a video during a stage performance, urging fans, including adults, to stand while she performed.
The video has since generated heavy backlash against both Tracy Shay and the “Survivor” singer.
Following the viral footage, Wendy Shay’s mother, in a video shared on X on January 7, 2026, cautioned Tracy Shay over the incident.
In the video, she noted that Tracy Shay’s decision to perform at a concert without informing Wendy Shay was a wrong move and showed a lack of respect for the singer and her brand.

According to her, had Tracy Shay informed the musician beforehand, Wendy Shay could have advised and guided her on how to handle her stage craft appropriately.
“What all of you are saying on social media is right. Some of you believe that the child’s mother has every right to allow her daughter to perform on any stage she wants, and that is true. However, it would not have been wrong if she had informed her godmother about the show.
“So long as she has the Shay brand attached to her name, it should remind her that Wendy Shay worked hard to build that brand. It would not have cost her anything to inform Wendy Shay. At least she could have coached her on what to do on stage,” she said.

Wendy Shay’s mother further stated that the insults directed at Wendy Shay are unnecessary.
According to her, Wendy Shay had no knowledge of Tracy Shay’s performance, adding that the backlash against the musician could discourage her from supporting other children who may want to associate with her.
“Those of you saying the child can do anything she wants, I want to tell you that this is the reason why most people refuse to help others.
“There are many children who call me and plead with me, saying they want to join Wendy Shay. I was even advising Wendy to establish a dance school for these children, but because of what is happening now, do you think she would want to do it?” she added.
