Former Ghanaian defender Samuel Osei Kuffour has revealed that his inability to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars remains a painful memory.
He stated that, given all the effort he put into the team, winning an AFCON trophy would have been a fitting achievement to cement his legacy in Ghana’s football history.
The ex-Bayern Munich center-back lamented that he will have no major international trophy to show his children in the future as evidence of his footballing exploits.
“It kills me every day that I didn’t win the AFCON because there is nothing I can show my children. How many great players have been able to win that tournament? It is very difficult” he said during an interview with Sporty FM.
Kuffour played for the Black Stars from 1993 to 2006, making a total of 54 appearances and scoring three goals.
He was regarded as one of the best defenders in world football, playing a key role in Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League triumph.
The Black Stars are still searching for an AFCON title, having endured a 43-year drought.
