    Ghanaian footballer Abdul Majeed Waris has said that the Black Stars‘ inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco is an embarrassment.

    He noted that Ghana’s absence from the continental showpiece brought has disappointment to most of the citizens who were expecting qualification.

    The former Strasbourg attacker called on authorities to put measures in place to ensure that the setbacks are addressed so the team can return to its glorious days.

    “As a player who has also played for the national team, I know what it means for the whole of Ghana to qualify for this tournament [AFCON]. I would say it’s a shame to all of us. I feel like something needs to be done. I think everyone is hurt, and we are not going to feel it that much now.

    “When you see the countries arriving for the tournament, and the joy, the happiness that it brings into the country, that’s when the country will start to feel it more. The only thing that can be done is to look into how we can make it into the next one,” Waris commented during an interview with JoySports.

    Ghana lost three, drew three, and won none of their six matches played in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

    The team finished bottom of Group F with just three points, while Sudan and Angola qualified from the group.

    It marks the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars have not qualified for the AFCON.
