Public Relations Officer for King Promise’s team, Tilly Akua Nipaa, has dismissed suggestions that a potential Artiste of the Year win at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) would be based on pity.

According to her, King Promise’s success is the result of hard work and undeniable impact.

This comes as anticipation builds ahead of the awards night, scheduled for April 10, 2025.

Some critics have speculated that a win for King Promise could serve as a consolation after losing the title to his rival, Stonebwoy, last year.

However, in a candid interview with Graphic Showbiz, Tilly argued that King Promise’s record-breaking year speaks for itself.

With 10 nominations, up from six last year, and four major hits, including Paris, Continental, Sexy, and Favourite Story, she emphasised that his growing reach and influence make him a deserving contender.

“You can clearly see the double effort put in by the artiste during the year under review compared to the previous year.

“If anyone says King Promise will win out of pity, it’s a fallacy. With these numbers, you can’t say he didn’t work hard, he’s doubled what he did last year,” she said.

Tilly also highlighted his international dominance, with performances across Asia, Europe, and North America, reinforcing his position as a global act.

While acknowledging the stiff competition from the likes of Stonebwoy, King Paluta, and Black Sherif, she maintained that King Promise’s artistry, consistency, and impact set him apart.

“If it’s about the work done in 2024, compare the artistry head-to-head and you’ll see how King Promise stands ahead of them all,” she added.

Nonetheless, Tilly admitted that winning ultimately depends on votes, urging fans to throw their support behind him.

“It’s not just about having a good chance; it’s about securing votes. The real question is, did the artiste’s team actively vote, mobilise supporters, and campaign effectively?” she asked.
