Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage has expressed discomfort with being labelled the “Queen of Afrobeats”, a title often given to her by fans and some personalities in the creative arts industry.

In a post shared on Instagram on September 12, 2025, Tiwa stated that she isn’t interested in the title, explaining that it makes her feel uneasy.

Tiwa Savage explained that accepting such a label often comes with pressure and expectations, which could prevent her from being her authentic self.

“It is uncomfortable because I feel like when I start accepting it, I need to be humble too. What am I saying when I say I am the queen of Afrobeats?” she said.

While she may not embrace the title, Tiwa expressed gratitude to her fanbase for recognizing her impact and contributions to the genre.

“I do appreciate it because it’s not something I came up with. I think it’s because I’m the first female to do music (in a certain way). I do appreciate that, and I’m not taking it for granted,” she added.
