The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Issifu Seidu, convened a strategic coordination meeting with the Ghanaian delegation at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, to reinforce unity, strengthen negotiation strategies and ensure Ghana’s priorities are advanced throughout the conference.

He began by commending the delegation for their commitment and urged them to document their engagements clearly, outlining key discussions, follow-up needs, and how their work will benefit the country.

He welcomed the enhanced system being introduced to streamline the tracking and deployment of Ghana’s negotiators.

The minister reminded delegates that Ghana’s presence at COP30 is an opportunity to project strong climate leadership.

He emphasised that the conduct of every delegate should reflect national values and Ghana’s growing influence in global climate diplomacy.

He highlighted critical priorities Ghana intends to push, particularly the country’s bid to lead the Africa Group of Negotiators and stressed the need for effective coordination across all sectors to demonstrate readiness for this role.

He urged the delegation to approach every negotiation with seriousness, to align technical expertise across ministries and agencies, and to strengthen engagement with multinational companies to leverage new partnerships.

He also underscored the importance of mobilising sufficient resources to support next year’s COP processes and Ghana’s broader climate agenda.

Delegates provided concise updates across key negotiation areas, including adaptation, finance, agriculture, the global stocktake, and response measures.

The minister noted that all inputs from the delegation will be consolidated into a comprehensive national report to be submitted to the President.

He closed by encouraging the team to remain coordinated and proactive, ensuring Ghana secures tangible outcomes and continues to demonstrate leadership at COP30.
