A California resident has sparked hilarious online reactions after calling the police because they saw a ‘dead’ elephant on someone’s front lawn.

It all began when the Palms Springs Police Department received a concerning phone call from a terrified citizen on Thursday.

They claimed they has a dead elephant outside of a home and requested help urgently.

Animal control rushed to the property to respond to the outlandish 911 call. But when authorities arrived, they were in for a surprise.

‘Animal Control sprang into action, only to discover that this “fallen giant” was in fact… a wind-toppled yard statue,’ the police department revealed in a humorous social media post.

‘No tranquilizers were needed, no stampede protocols activated. Just another breezy day in Palm Springs reminding us to secure your statues, especially the life-sized ones.’

A photo shared by police shows the faux elephant tipped on its side near a concrete wall on someone’s grass-covered lawn.

It is unclear where the statue came from or where the fake animal was taken after police addressed the situation.

Regardless, the police department’s social media posts about the ‘unusual’ incident have garnered laughter and witty responses from viewers who found the scenario hysterical.

‘Who’s gonna talk about the elephant in the room?’ one Facebook user jested.

‘Lol…..someone needs to move up their cataract removal surgery date,’ another added, pointing to poor vision to explain how the caller mistook the fake animal for a real one.

One man joked that the elephant was an ‘abandoned pet’ and offered to ‘adopt it’ from the lawn.

Since an elephant is the Republican party’s symbol, someone suggested ‘he collapsed after hearing about Trump’s tariffs.’

‘Obviously a Republican seeing the Dow Jones,’ another use with a political sense of humor said.

Instagram users also got a kick out of the situation, with one woman saying it was ‘too too funny.’

‘It saw a mouse and wanted to make sure it was gone,’ someone wrote, speculating about possible reasons the ‘elephant’ could have wondered into the residential area.

‘Better check on his relatives at the living desert. Birds without feathers fall together,’ another added.

This commenter was likely referring to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, about 13 miles outside of Palm Springs.

The zoo offers an African safari experience, where guests can get up close with rhinos, giraffes and cheetahs – but there are not actually any elephants there.
