Dramatic drone footage showed the moment a senior Al-Qaeda leader was taken out in a U.S. airstrike.
Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, the senior military leader of the terrorist group Hurras al-Din (HaD) – an Al-Qaeda affiliate – was killed in an airstrike in Northwest Syria on February 23 by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces.
CENTCOM released the heart-stopping video on Saturday morning that depicted the airstrike hitting the car with the Turkish national inside.
‘The airstrike is part of CENTCOM’s ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and degrade efforts by terrorists to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and military personnel from the U.S., our allies, and our partners throughout the region and beyond,’ the agency said in a post on X.
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander, said: ‘As we have in the past, we will continue to relentlessly pursue these terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region and beyond.’
This is the second US airstrike against Hurras Al-Din in recent weeks, as CENTCOM forces killed Wasim Tahsin Bayraqdar, a senior leader, on February 21.
CENTCOM released an image of the car Bayraqdar was traveling in at the time, as a gapping hole was left in its windshield.
