Ghana’s hopes of strengthening the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have suffered a major setback, with both targets, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah ruled out of contention due to season-ending injuries.

The Ghana Football Association had recently revived efforts to persuade the two England-born forwards to switch international allegiance in time for the tournament. However, their injuries mean neither player will be available for selection, effectively ending any immediate prospects of their inclusion in the Black Stars squad.

The development is a blow to Ghana’s recruitment plans as they look to bolster their attacking options for the global showpiece. With both targets unavailable, attention is now expected to shift to alternative players who can strengthen the team ahead of the competition.

Ghana must now reassess its strategy as preparations continue for the World Cup.
